WHY NEUTER?
Neutering is the removal of ovaries, uterus and tesicles
WHAT IS NEUTERING?
Removal of the ovaries, uterus and testicles
Females are spayed - the ovaries (and sometimes womb) are removed
Males are castrated - testicles removed.
It is a myth that its beneficial to have a litter.

Benefits of neutering
Females in season will attract male attention, and can become pregnant.
Prevents the risk of pyometra (uterine infection) in females and testicular cancer in males.
Reduces mess - male cats will mark (spray urine in your house) females can be messy in season, as they bleed for up to three weeks.
Reduces the risk of theft as neutered animals are less saleable.
BABY ANIMALS ARE CUTE.....BUT
......baby animals are cute but pregnant animals, nursing mothers and baby animals need lots of care! It is a legal requirement that puppies are microchipped at 8 weeks, before rehoming, and will soon become law also for kittens. You will also need to make sure they are treated for parasites.
Not every pregnancy is straight forward - you may need to consider veterinary advice and treatment during pregnancy, labour and after birth - for both mum and babies!
THE CAT CRISIS!
Did you know about the cat crisis.....
The cat population in the UK has reached crisis point.Â
AÂ cat can have up to 8 kittens per litter and 2-3 litters per year. During her life a cat can have more than 100 kittens. Feline AIDS is prevalent amongst stray cats and is spread by bites and scratches. Un-neutered male cats will frequently fight and so are at higher risk of contracting the deadly virus. There is no cure.
So please consider neutering your cat, we would be happy to advise. It can be performed from 4 months of age and Cats Protection offer generous support to help you. Speak to us about subsidised neutering supported by Cats Protection.
